Dr. Modhar Al Zaidan

Dr. Modhar Al Zaidan is a Consultant in Psychiatry at Medcare Medical Centre. He completed his MBBS from Medical College Baghdad in Iraq and an MD in Specialist Psychiatry from the Oslo University in Norway. He has also completed his specialisation in Adult Psychiatry from Oslo University in Norway. He also holds a specialisation in Occupational Medicine from Baghdad, which complements his psychiatric practice by offering a holistic view of mental health care for adults. He’s a member of the Norwegian Psychiatric Association. 

 Dr. Zaidan has over three decades of experience in comprehensive mental health care, specializing in adult psychiatry and neuropsychiatric disorders. He has worked across various hospitals and clinics in Norway, Iraq and the UAE. During his tenure at Oslo University Hospital, he became an expert in pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy. He served as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the Adult Psychiatric Department of the Strømme District Psychiatric Center in Kristiansand-Sørlandet Hospital. He also spent a long time as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the old age psychiatric department of Gaustad Hospital, the University Hospital of Oslo. 

Dr. Zaidan’s expertise covers the entire gamut of adult psychiatry, neuropsychiatric disorders, liaison psychiatry, pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy. He treats depression, anxiety disorders, adult ADHD, bipolar affective disorder, psychotic disorders, and somatisation disorders. He has a special interest in the management of bipolar disorders, applying evidence-based treatments to help patients achieve stability and improve their quality of life. His approach combines pharmacotherapy with psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

He is deeply committed to advancing the field of psychiatry through education. He understands the cultural nuances that affect mental health, adapting his treatment in line with the unique needs of his patients. He enjoys reading in his spare time and speaks Arabic, English and Norwegian.
