Dr. Mohammed Istarabadi

Dr. Mohammed Istarabadi is an experienced Consultant Urologist and General Surgeon working at Medcare Royal Speciality Hospital. He completed his MBBCh, BAO, LRCP and SI (NUI) degrees from the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland, followed by an MS in Anatomy from the University College, Dublin. He completed his General Surgery and cardiothoracic training in Dublin and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland (FRCSI). He then moved to the USA to train in Urological Surgery in Albany, New York and was certified by the American Board of Urology. He is a member of the American Urological Association (AUA) and the European Association of Urology (EAU). He remains engaged in ongoing professional development and the latest advancements in his field. 

With over three decades of expertise in minimally invasive urological procedures and complex general surgeries, Dr. Istarabadi’s career spans renowned institutions in the U.A.E. and U.S. He has held leadership roles, including that of Head of Urology Departments at prestigious hospitals like NMC - Al Zahra Hospital, Dubai, and London Hospital LLC, Dubai. He holds the distinction of pioneering the Laser Lithotripsy in the UAE and the Gulf and has executed more than 2,500 operations to date. He is an Associate Professor of Urology at the University of Sharjah, advancing academic and clinical practice.

Dr. Istarabadi’s general surgery background encompasses emergency and vascular surgeries, and his cardiothoracic training equips him for thoracoscopic procedures addressing conditions like pneumothorax  He performs complex urological surgeries related to conditions such as kidney stones, prostate disorders, and urinary tract diseases. His proficiency in minimally invasive surgery, including advanced laparoscopic and laser techniques, enables precise interventions with quicker recovery times. He is also skilled in urological oncology, focusing on cancers affecting the kidneys, bladder, and prostate. His expertise lies in hormone treatment for prostate cancer, treating bladder problems, urinary tract infections (UTIs), bladder and kidney cancer, kidney blockage, kidney stones, erectile dysfunction (ED), etc. His experience covers adult and paediatric urological surgery including laparoscopic urology, endourology, laser urology, and female urology. He has a special interest in uro-oncology including radical prostatectomy, cystoprostatectomy, nephrectomy, orchiectomy and adrenalectomy.

He is actively invited to scientific sessions, conferences, meetings, and global seminars. Under his credit, there are both national and international publications. He has published articles in journals like the Internet Journal of Urology and has been lauded at international conferences, including the World Congress of Endourology and the British Thoracic Society. Notably, his research on laparoscopic orchiopexy, laser lithotripsy, and thoracoscopic management of pneumothorax, has advanced the fields of urology and minimally invasive surgery.
