Dr. Brijesh Puthalonkunath Valsalan

Dr. Brijesh Puthalonkunath Valsalan is a Specialist in Orthopaedics Surgery at Medcare Hospital, Sharjah. He completed his MBBS, his Diploma in Orthopaedics and a Master's in Orthopaedic Surgery from Calicut Medical College in Kerala, India. He is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCS), the Indian Orthopaedic Association, the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association, the Emirates Orthopaedic Society, the Société Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopédique et de Traumatologie and the World Association against Infection in Trauma and Orthopaedics.

Dr. Valsalan began his career first as a Resident and then as a Senior Resident in Orthopaedics at the Government Medical College, Kozhikode, India. He also worked as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Vatakara Cooperative Hospital in Kozhikode. Subsequently, he relocated to the UAE and joined the Thumbay Group as a Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon and Clinical Lecturer. He also served as a University Lecturer in Orthopaedics at the Gulf Medical University and worked as a Specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Aster Hospital in Sharjah.  

Dr. Valsalan provides expert care for both adults and children, with particular expertise in fractures, sports injuries, and a wide range of musculoskeletal problems. Recognised for his patient-centred approach, he combines advanced treatment techniques with tailored care plans to deliver the best possible outcomes. He treats all knee problems, including ACL injuries, meniscal tears, and cartilage damage, manages shoulder conditions like rotator cuff injuries, instability, and frozen shoulder, and treats Tennis elbow, Plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis and carpal tunnel syndrome. His goal is to restore mobility, relieve pain and support each patient in returning to an active and healthy lifestyle. He provides comprehensive care for osteoarthritis with both conservative and surgical solutions, including joint replacement (arthroplasty) and joint-conserving (osteotomies) procedures. He performs arthroscopic (keyhole) surgeries for the knee and shoulder and offers advanced options in regenerative medicine and pain management for joint, back, and neck pain.

He has also contributed to international journals and is a contributing author for Evidence-Based Orthopaedic Principles, published under the SICOT India initiative.

In his spare time, he enjoys travelling, reading, and playing sports. He speaks a variety of languages like Arabic, English, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil and Urdu.
