Dr. Umer Mehmood Butt

Dr. Umer Mehmood Butt is a highly experienced, UK Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, currently practising at Medcare Orthopaedic & Spine Hospital, UAE. After completing his Pakistan Medical and Dental Council Examination, he embarked on his MD from Saint Petersburg Medical Academy, Russia. Later, he took his PLAB Examination, GMC (UK) and CCT UK. He is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS), Edinburgh and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery (FRCS T&O), Edinburgh. He has a Professional Management and Leadership Diploma from Circle Health Care, London Area, UK. He is a member of the British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK), the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA), the Société Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopédique et de Traumatologie (SICOT) and the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association (APOA) Sports Committee. 

Dr. Butt has well-rounded global experience in his field, having worked across several countries, including the UK, Pakistan, Romania and the UAE. In the early stages of his career, he was a Senior Registrar at Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and a Specialist Registrar in Trauma and Orthopaedics at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre, part of the North Bristol NHS Trust. After this, he completed his Fellowship in Computer-Navigated Knee and Multi-ligament Reconstruction at Plymouth University Hospital and worked as a Senior Fellow in Knee and Shoulder at the Circle Bath Hospital, UK. Later, he became a Visiting Consultant at the AO Bone and Joint Centre in Karachi, where he established the first-ever centre for sports surgery in Pakistan, and served as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the National Hospital Defence, Lahore. He joined the faculty at Arthrex Lab in Munich, Germany, a prestigious role that involved training surgeons from around the world. He has also served as a Faculty Tutor at the FRCS Orth Revision Course at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry, UK. He is an Executive Director at HIUB Health Care, UK and a Visiting Consultant at Ortokinetic Sports Centre, Bucharest, Romania. In the UAE, he is affiliated with Zia Medical Centre, Dubai.

Additionally, he plays a key role in international orthopaedic organisations, serving as Chairman of the SICOT Sports Committee and Director of the Arthroscopy Fellowship Programme. He was the Chairman of the International Knee and Shoulder Conference, Bahrain, the Scientific Committee Chair of the HULS Shoulder Conference, Lahore, the Chairman of the International Shoulder Symposium, Lahore and the Chairman of the Stryker Live Surgery Course, Circle Bath Hospital, UK. He is a trained Medical Appraiser for doctors and worked at the Circle Health Hospitals in Bath, UK.

With over two decades of experience, Dr. Butt specialises in sports medicine and joint preservation procedures, including partial knee replacement, kneecap replacement, osteotomy, and advanced arthroscopic surgeries. He is proficient in knee arthroscopic meniscal repair and transplant, complex failed meniscal repair, cartilage transplant, arthroscopic ACL and PCL reconstruction, arthroscopic multi-ligament and MPFL reconstruction, and revision ACL and PCL reconstruction.  He has successfully performed arthroscopic shoulder cuff repair and stabilisation, arthroscopic LHB tenodesis and capsular release, primary robotic knee replacement, Uni knee & revision, osteotomy of tibia and femur, tibial tubercle osteotomy and stem cell treatment of knee and shoulders.

He has been an Elite reviewer at KSSTA Journal and a reviewer of the BESS Journal, UK.  He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, delivered several lectures and attended international conferences. He speaks English, Hindi, Punjabi, Russian and Urdu.
