Dr. Hossam Mohamed Refat Ibrahim Elkhodari is a Consultant in Neurology at Medcare Hospital, Sharjah. He completed his MBBCh (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery) and his Master's degree in Neuropsychiatry from Zagazig University, Egypt. He has a medical doctorate in Neurology and is licensed as a Senior Registrar in Saudi Arabia by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS). Further, he is a member of the prestigious Egyptian Society of Neurology, Psychiatry and Neurosurgery (ESNPN) and holds a Fellowship of the World Headache Society.
Dr. Elkhodari is recognised for his clinical expertise in Neurology, having worked across Egypt, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the UAE. He began his career in Egypt as a House Officer, then progressed to the position of a Neurology Resident and finally became an Assistant Lecturer of Neurology, all at Zagazig University Hospitals, Egypt. Subsequently, he moved to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where he practised as a Neurology Specialist at the Saudi German Hospitals Group in Jeddah. He then returned to Egypt, where he joined his alma mater, Zagazig University Hospitals, first as an Assistant Lecturer in Neurology, then as a Lecturer in Neurology, before moving back to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In Jeddah, he served as a Neurology Consultant at the Saudi German Hospital until moving to the UAE.
Dr. Elkhodari has almost two decades of experience in the field of Neurology and specialises in treating multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, nerve diseases, and other neurological diseases. He treats ischemic and haemorrhagic stroke, including post-stroke follow-up, chronic headaches, including tension-type headache, migraine, cluster headache, epilepsy, seizure disorders, dizziness, balance disorders, Parkinson’s disease and other involuntary movement disorders, peripheral nerve inflammation, including conditions such as acute flaccid paralysis, myasthenia gravis, neuromuscular junction disorders, numbness and limb weakness caused by peripheral neuropathies. Patients come to him for the treatment of memory disorders and dementias, including Alzheimer’s disease, autoimmune diseases of the nervous system, particularly multiple sclerosis, and neck and back pain due to nerve compression or intervertebral disc disorders. He proficiently performs electroencephalography (EEG), nerve conduction studies (NCS) and electromyography (EMG).
Dr. Elkhodari is actively involved in academic contributions and publications in Neurology, so it’s no surprise to see him reading during his spare time, too. To keep fit, he indulges in swimming. He is fluent in both Arabic and English.
