About

Dr. Ahmed Hamdy Ramadan is a Consultant in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine at Medcare Hospital, Sharjah. He completed his MBBCh in Cairo, Egypt, before specialising in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Egyptian Medical Council. He also holds a Master's (MD) and a PhD in Internal Medicine. He is certified by the Arab Board of Health Specialties in Gastroenterology and is a member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP), UK.

With over two decades of experience, Dr. Ramadan has worked in several countries, including Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. He began his career as an Internist and Gastroenterologist at Cairo University Hospitals. He spent some time as an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Kasr Al Ainy Hospitals in Egypt. He was a Senior Consultant in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at the Egyptian Medical Syndicate. Later, he worked in the colorectal cancer screening programme as one of the experts in colonoscopy in MOH, Kuwait, then moved to Oman as a Senior Specialist in Gastroenterology. Subsequently, he relocated to the UAE as a Consultant in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at Zulekha Hospital, Sharjah, and moved to Al Garhoud Hospital in Dubai. He also did a stint as an adjunct Professor at Sharjah University. 

Dr. Ramadan is an expert in the management of diseases ranging from gastritis, acidity, GERD and heartburn to IBS, malabsorption, pancreatic disorders, chronic abdominal pain, chronic diarrhoea, constipation, acute and chronic viral hepatitis, autoimmune hepatitis, metabolic liver disease and fatty liver. He treats ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, liver cirrhosis, diseases of the oesophagus, pancreatic diseases, functional GIT disorders and peptic ulcer disease using emerging biological therapy. His treatment options encompass both diagnostic procedures such as upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, capsule endoscopy and flexible Sigmoidoscopy and therapeutic endoscopic procedures for upper and lower GIT bleeding, foreign body removal, dilatation of the oesophagus, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) insertion, oesophageal banding of varices, varicose injection, obesity treatment (balloon, Botox) and GIT stents and removal of GI Polyps by various techniques and banding of haemorrhoids. He uses Fibroscan to assess liver elastography in patients with fatty liver diseases as well as chronic hepatitis. 

Dr. Ramadan has written articles and published research papers in international journals. He is proficient in Arabic and English.
