Dr. Shama Nawaz

Dr. Shama Nawaz is a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Medcare Hospital Sharjah. After completing her basic education in medicine she worked for a few years in Pakistan and then obtained an RCOG/RCR Diploma in Advanced Obstetric Ultrasound and did her MRCP and FRCP from Ireland as well. She is a fellow of the Royal College of Gynaecologists (MRCOG/FRCOG) and has a Fellowship in Aesthetic Gynaecology from the American Aesthetic Society.

After graduation and initial training in Pakistan, she worked for a few years in the Pakistan Army and then in the Zayed Military Hospital in Abu Dhabi. Due to her interest in high-risk pregnancies, she specialised in both maternal and foetal medicine. After specialisation, Dr. Nawaz worked for a decade in Ireland, teaching at various hospitals. She then relocated to the UAE to work as a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology first at Zahra Hospital and then as The Head of Department at NMC Royal Hospital, Sharjah. She has spent nearly two decades in the UAE some of which was spent as an Associate Professor and Examiner in the College of Medicine at the University of Sharjah.

Dr. Shama’s expertise encompasses high-risk pregnancies, menstrual disorders, infertility, PCO, pelvic pain, colposcopy LLETZ, hysteroscopy, ultrasound in obstetrics and gynaecology, aesthetic gynaecology and management and counselling of psycho-sexual disorders.

Her leisure hours are spent in artistic pursuits as she is fond of writing poetry, dabbling in interior designing and listening to music. She speaks English, Arabic, Urdu, Punjabi and Pushto.
