Dr. Richa Mittal

Dr. Richa Mittal is a Specialist in Pulmonary Medicine at Medcare Hospital. She completed her MBBS at Goa Medical College, India, and her MD in Pulmonary Medicine at Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute, New Delhi, India. Additionally, she holds a European Diploma of Respiratory Medicine (EDRM) from the European Respiratory Society, a DM in Pulmonary Medicine from Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) & Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, and a Diplomate of the National Board (DNB) in Pulmonary Medicine from the National Board of Examinations, India. She holds a Fellowship in Sleep Medicine awarded by the Indian Sleep Disorder Association (ISDA), and a Speciality Certificate in Respiratory Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP), UK.

Dr. Mittal is a member of the European Respiratory Society (ERS), the World Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (WABIP), the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC), the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology (APSR), the Indian Association for Bronchology (IAB), the Indian Chest Society (ICS), the Indian Sleep Disorders Association (ISDA) and the National College of Chest Physicians (NCCP), India.

Dr. Mittal began her career in Pulmonology as a Junior Resident in Emergency Medicine at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi. Later, she served as a Senior Resident at Primus Hospital and at the Lady Hardinge Medical College, both in New Delhi, India. She also had the opportunity to serve as a Senior Resident with Teaching experience at the Vardhman Mahavir Medical College & Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, India. She worked briefly as a Consultant in Pulmonary Medicine at Criticare Multispeciality Hospital, Mumbai, following which she joined the Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai, as a Consultant in Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine. Here, she was involved in the comprehensive management of patients with respiratory diseases, including obstructive and restrictive lung diseases, severe asthma, interstitial lung disease, pleural disorders, and sleep-related breathing disorders.    

Dr. Mittal’s expertise focuses on interventional Pulmonology, including endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) - linear & radial, flexible bronchoscopy (bronchoalveolar lavage, transbronchial biopsy, endobronchial biopsy, transbronchial needle aspiration), therapeutic bronchoscopy, and central airway obstruction management. She manages pleural disorders with procedures using an indwelling pleural catheter, thoracoscopy, thoracocentesis, pleural biopsy, intercostal drain insertion, chest tube drainage, pleurodesis and pleural ultrasonography. She also practices sleep medicine, which includes polysomnography, including watch PAT, CPAP titration, and multiple sleep latency tests. She proficiently treats all lung conditions, including Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), Interstitial Lung Diseases (ILD) or DPLD, sarcoidosis, autoimmune diseases related ILD, scleroderma, SLE, and rheumatoid arthritis, influenza, pneumonia, tuberculosis, fungal infections, bronchiectasis, bronchiolitis, chest pain, respiratory failure, pulmonary hypertension and embolism. She also performs lung cancer screening and diagnosis, treating lung mass or nodules and assisting patients with smoking cessation. To stay abreast of evolving practices, Dr. Mittal continues to pursue international training opportunities. She attended a training in Rigid Bronchoscopy at the ERS Skills Course in Marseille, France and a European Respiratory Society Skills Course. She mentors postgraduate students, organises national-level conferences and continues to contribute to the growth of interventional pulmonology and evidence-based respiratory care. 

During her spare time, she enjoys travelling and reading, especially thrillers. She loves working out and her fitness regimen includes yoga, Pilates, and aerial yoga.  She speaks both English and Hindi, fluently.
