Dr. Purnima Gondane Sweetman

Dr. Purnima Gondane Sweetman is a Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the Medcare Medical Centre. Interestingly, she completed her BA in English literature from Nagpur University before acquiring an MBBS from the Government Medical College and Hospital, Nagpur, India. She then completed a Diplomate Assessment from the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health (DSFRH) and a Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (DGO) from Nagpur University. She is a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) and a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRCOG). She is a member of the British Society of Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology, UK (BRITSPAG), the British Intrapartum Care Society, UK (BICS) and the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy, UK (BSGE).

Initially, Dr. Sweetman practiced medicine in India, after which her career path led her to the Sultanate of Oman. She has spent more than three decades in her chosen field, having worked across three countries, namely India, the UK and Oman. As a skilled professional, she has worked for many, many years with the NHS Trust in the UK as a Consultant.  She has been a lead for the Labour ward, Audit lead, perinatal morbidity and mortality lead, lead for External Cephalic Version services, Speciality clinic lead, lead for diabetes in pregnancy, lead for preterm birth prevention clinic and epilepsy, lead for Paediatric and adolescent Gynaecology services. She also carries out root cause analysis and reviews of management. 

The entire gamut of Dr. Sweetman’s expertise covers high-risk pregnancy management, prevention of preterm birth, medical disorders in pregnancy (diabetes, thyroid, epilepsy), external Cephalic version for breech, vaginal breech birth, paediatric and adolescent gynaecology, adult gynaecology, vaginal surgeries for prolapse repair, abdominal surgeries for fibroids, endometriosis, basic ultrasound scan gynaecology and early pregnancy, cervical cerclage, recurrent miscarriage management and PCOS. She has successfully treated patients with menstrual disorders, Novasure endometrial ablation, vulval disorders, haematocolpos, ectopic pregnancy and caesarean sections. She also performs hysterectomies, and hysteroscopic procedures, and advises patients on contraception, coil insertion, implants and injectables

In her spare time, she indulges in gardening, cooking and Yoga. She enjoys travelling and does charity work too. She speaks Arabic, English, Hindi and Marathi.
