Dr. Joseph Youssef

Dr. Joseph Youssef is a Specialist in the Department of Internal Medicine at Medcare Royal Speciality Hospital. After completing his MBBS from Tishreen University in Latakia, he obtained a Master’s degree in Internal Medicine from Damascus University, Syria. He is a member of the Canadian Medical Registrar, the Collège des Médecins Du Québec and the Syrian Internal Medicine Association. He is also a member of the Dubai Healthcare Authority and the Syrian Medical Association.

Dr. Youssef has worked in several hospitals in Syria, the UAE and Canada in different settings ranging from outpatient clinics to inpatient wards, critical care, coronary care units and emergency departments, and in urban, rural, and remote settings. He commenced his career as a Resident of Internal Medicine at Al Mousat & Al Assad University Hospitals and then went on to become an Internal Medicine Specialist in the ICU at the St Louis Hospital, both in Damascus, Syria. He briefly ran his own clinic for a few years before joining the Red Crescent Hospital, in Syria as Cardiology Resident. Subsequently, he moved first to Dubai, UAE and then to Canada as an Internal Medicine Specialist. He worked with Medcare Orthopaedic and Spine Hospital and Firstmed Day Surgery Centre in Dubai, and then at the CIUSSS West Hospitals in Montreal, Canada.

His clinical expertise includes areas such as CPR, Echocardiography, ECG, exercise stress tests, intubation, extubation, and dealing with ventilation devices. He has experience in managing patients with conditions like diabetes, dyslipidaemia, hypertension, chronic renal failure, anaemia, cardiovascular diseases like congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease and heart failure, digestive disorders like inflammatory bowel disease, ulcers, gastritis, and acute and chronic respiratory conditions like flu, common cold, bronchitis, strep throat, pneumonia, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). As an extremely patient-centric and evidence-based professional, Dr. Youssef believes in patient education, disease prevention, early detection of diseases, screening, and follow-up care after hospitalization. He has successfully managed arthritis and other rheumatologic conditions, and immunologic disorders like allergies and asthma, as well as infectious diseases, kidney problems and neurological conditions like migraines, dizziness headaches, etc. He collaborates with physicians and other healthcare professionals to contribute to a high-quality healthcare system where outstanding patient- care is delivered. He is a lecturer in public health and community health with research experience and has won multiple awards for his service to medicine.

Dr. Youssef likes to keep fit through jogging, hiking and mountain biking and enjoys reading in his spare time. He speaks Arabic, English and French.
