Dr. Ashwini Kumar Banerjee

Dr. Ashwini Kumar Banerjee is a Consultant in Gastroenterology at Medcare Medical Centre. He completed his MBBS from the University of Calcutta in India and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Gastroenterology & General Internal Medicine from the UK. He is a Fellow of the European Board of Gastroenterology & Hepatology (EUMS) and of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP), UK. Additionally, he holds an MBA in International Healthcare Management from the University of Cumbria, UK and certifications in Diagnostic UGI Endoscopy, Level 1 & 2 in Colonoscopy from the Joint Advisory Group (JAG) on GI Endoscopy, a certification in Advanced Life Support (ALS) from the Resuscitation Council, UK and a certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association. He is a member of the British Society of Gastroenterologists, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the Royal College of Physicians (London), the European Group of Endoscopic Ultrasound and the Pancreatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland.

With over two decades of experience in Gastroenterology, Dr. Banerjee has worked in the UK and the UAE. After completing his Core Medical Training (CT1) at Wirral University Teaching Hospital and Core Medical Training (CT2) at Warrington and Halton Hospitals, NHS Foundation Trust, he joined Rotherham NHS Foundation as a Specialist Registrar in Gastroenterology & GIM. Starting with Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Trust and Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Trust as a Specialist Registrar 4 in Gastroenterology & GIM, he continued to progress as he worked with East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, the Salford Royal Foundation Trust, and the Blackpool Teaching Hospitals. Subsequently, he worked as a Consultant Gastroenterologist with a subspecialist interest in pancreatobiliary medicine at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust before moving to the UAE to join the American Hospital, Dubai, as a Consultant Gastroenterologist.  Later, he worked in a similar capacity with Mubadala Health Dubai, Healthpoint, Emirates Hospital Group, Valiant Clinic and Hospital and the JTS Medical Centre.

Dr. Banerjee has extensive experience in general Gastroenterology with a special interest in pancreatobiliary medicine and advanced interventional endoscopy. He performs diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, including capsule endoscopy, gastroscopy, colonoscopy, push enteroscopy, ERCP, EUS, feeding tube placement, stricture dilatations, enteral stent placements and FibroScan. He treats dyspepsia, heartburn, bloating, abdominal pain, difficulty in swallowing, SIBO, coeliac disease, chronic diarrhoea, constipation, rectal bleeding, haemorrhoids, colonic polyps, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, fatty liver, hepatitis, cirrhosis, viral hepatitis, pancreatic disorders, pancreatic exocrine insufficiency and malabsorption.

Besides being involved in education and training for medical students and junior doctors in gastroenterology, Dr. Banerjee has presented papers at conferences at a global level. He has conducted high-quality endoscopy audits that have led to changes in endoscopy practices in the hospitals where he has worked. He is fond of reading and speaks Bengali, English and Hindi fluently.
