Dr. Arif A. Adenwala is an accomplished Consultant in Ophthalmology at the Medcare Royal Speciality Hospital. He completed his MBBS and an MS in Ophthalmology from a Government Medical College in India. He further acquired a Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), USA, the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) Glasgow, UK and a

Fellowship in General Ophthalmology and Phacoemulsification (FGO) from a renowned charitable eye hospital in Pune, India. He is a Diplomate of the National Board (DNB) from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, New Delhi, India and holds Diplomas in Cataract and Refractive Surgery from the University of Ulster, Ireland and the International Council of Ophthalmology, UK.

He has done courses in FEMTO-LASIK  and ReLEx SMILE from Dr Rupal Shah, India, Observership in Cornea from  L.V. Prasad Eye Institute Hyderabad, India, Refractive Surgery Didactic Course from the European Society of Cataract Surgeons(ESCRS), Lasik Course from the IROC Centre Zurich by  Prof Theo Selier, Refractive Surgery Course from the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) USA and an Endothelial Keratoplasty course from Dr Mark Terry, AAO New Orleans. He has also done many short-term courses in Keratoplasty from  H V Desai Eye Hospital, Pune, in Lasik and Cross Linkage from Dr. Reddy at Maxivision Superspeciality Eye Hospital, Hyderabad, in Collagen Cross linkage from the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, Spain and a SOIE Uveitis course from European Society of Ophthalmology, Bahrain. 

 Dr. Adenwala has spent more than two meritorious decades in his chosen field having worked across the globe at renowned hospitals. During the early days of his career, he worked as a Consultant at Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital, a premier eye hospital in Mumbai, India. After relocating to the UAE, he worked as a Specialist Ophthalmologist in different multispeciality hospitals like Zulekha Hospital, Al Zahra Hospital in Sharjah and NMC Royal Hospital, Sharjah where he was instrumental in establishing a fully equipped eye department. He is quite active in the academic field having conducted many instruction courses during international conferences like ESCRS, AAO etc. He has presented papers during these International and National Meets and is also a reviewer of a prestigious Indian Journal of Ophthalmology. He has contributed chapters in International textbooks of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), the Emirates Ophthalmology Society (EOS), the All India Ophthalmology Society (AIOS) and the Mumbai Ophthalmological Society (MOA).

Dr. Adenwala’s expertise centres around topical Phacoemulsification with the implantation of multifocal, monofocal or Toric IOLs, refractive surgery including FEMTO-LASIK, SMILE, PRK, ReLEx and PRESBYOND and other refractive procedures to remove the glasses, management of Keratoconus including evaluation using PENTACAM and treatment with ring segments or corneal cross-linkage and paediatric ophthalmology including squint correction. He has specialised in the treatment of cataracts through surgery such as Clear Corneal or Scleral Phacoemulsification with implantation of a premium intra-ocular lens and the management of glaucoma using medications or operations like Trabeculectomy, combined Phaco-Trab or minimal invasive glaucoma(MIGS) implants to control the intra-ocular pressure. He treats Diabetic Eye Disease using recent diagnostic instruments like OCT and Fluorescein Angiography followed by medical management if needed, using intravitreal injections and Retinal Photocoagulation if required. He has successfully managed Pterygium with conjunctival or amniotic membrane grafting to reduce the recurrence rate and treated acute Trauma patients.

Dr. Arif is a marathon runner having completed many full and half Marathons locally in UAE and other countries. In his spare time, he plays Table Tennis and participates in various CSR corporate events. He speaks Arabic, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi and Urdu.
