Dr. Anupama Rao

Dr. Anupama Rao is an extremely skilled and qualified Specialist in Ophthalmology at Medcare Eye Centre. After her basic medical education, she completed her Diplomate of National Board (DNB) from New Delhi and several postgraduate diplomas. She has a Diploma in Ophthalmology (DO) from the University of Mumbai, a Diploma in Ophthalmic Medicine and Surgery (DOMS) from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Mumbai and a Post Graduate Diploma in Healthcare and Hospital Management (PGDHHM) from Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning, all from India. Dr. Rao is a member of the Emirates Society of Ophthalmology, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the National Academy of Medical Sciences (MNAMS), India, the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the International Council of Ophthalmology. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, FRCS (Glasgow).

Her commitment towards being the best in her chosen field and her thirst for knowledge is evident from the number of training courses she has taken. She completed her Phacoemulsification (suture-less cataract surgery) training from the well-known Bombay City Eye Institute and a short-term observer-ship in Glaucoma at Sankara Nethralaya, a leading ophthalmic institute in India. Dr. Rao’s accomplishments include Advanced training in Refractive Surgery and LASIK as well as a Lamellar Keratoplasty Refresher course. She has had the privilege of being a visiting fellow at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Centre and the Boothe Eye Centre in Dallas, USA. She holds a STAAR ICL certification.

Dr. Rao commenced her career as a Consultant Ophthalmologist first at MGM’s New Bombay Hospital and then at Sadyajyot Eye Clinic & Retina Centre, both in India. She worked as a visiting Ophthalmologist at Netranjali Eye Hospital and Mathadi Trust Hospital, garnering invaluable experience. She then moved to the UAE where she spent almost two decades as a Consultant Ophthalmologist of repute. After a short stint with NMC Speciality Hospital, she worked with Mediclinic Welcare Hospital and Welcare Eye Centre. Subsequently, she spent many years at Mediclinic City Hospital before joining Medcare Eye Centre.

Dr. Rao specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and surgery of anterior segment diseases of the eye including cataracts, glaucoma and refractive surgery. She has successfully performed vision correction surgeries, treated dry eye, lacrimal diseases (watery eyes), keratoconus, refractive errors in children, pterygium and eye Infections and inflammations.

She is a certified Life Coach and enjoys singing and running the Marathon in her spare time. She speaks English, Hindi, Konkani and Marathi.
